Minsky’s is proud to be associated with two groundbreaking local charities, Kids In Need and Distress (KIND) and Zoe’s Place.

Kids In Need and Distress

KIND is a children’s charity that pioneers new and imaginative ways to help families struggling to cope with many forms of disadvantage. Minsky’s got involved after reading about KIND in the Liverpool Echo, and we decided to help by creating our own shampoo which raises money for the charity with every bottle sold. We believe that supporting KIND in this way helps to raise awareness amongst our clients and provides the type of fulfilling experiences for children which many of us take for granted.

Effort is channelled through four main areas:

  1. Teaching - The new £750,000 Social and Environmental Education Development Centre (SEED) in Liverpool’s Toxteth area will provide support for children and parents
  2. Learning - Annual residential breaks at a countryside centre enable up to 400 children per year to spend a week in beautiful surroundings learning about themselves and others
  3. Helping - The annual KIND Christmas Appeal helps to make Christmas less stressful for many disadvantaged children - in 2006 the charity helped over 2000 families
  4. Supporting - Practical help for families in need, such as white goods, clothing, and toys.

KIND’s Chief Executive Stephen Yip says: “Minsky’s have been very positive supporters of our work over the years and we are delighted with the idea of the shampoo and the fact that it will be helping to raise money for some of the most disadvantaged youngsters in our community. It would be great if more local firms decided to help smaller local charities instead of choosing larger national charities, and we are grateful to Minsky’s for having taken the lead in this regard.”

Zoe's Place

Zöe’s Place is the only Baby Hospice in the UK providing 24 hour one-to-one respite and palliative nursing care for infants aged 0-5 with life threatening or life limiting conditions. The Hospice accommodates up to 6 infants at any one time, although currently there are 45 babies on the books at Liverpool.

The respite care provided at Zöe’s Place is open to babies from all over the country and has proved invaluable to many families over the 12 years it has been in existence. The Hospice does not receive any central government or NHS funding and the running costs of £650,000 per annum must be raised purely through public donations.

Minsky’s involvement is both financial and practical, and one of the main ways we help is by providing hair styling for the charity’s special events. They say: “Minksy’s Hairdressers have been a wonderful support to Zöe’s Place and are always ready to help with our annual Fashion Show. Their generosity and friendship are very much appreciated.” For more information about the work of the Hospice and for a full list of fundraising events, please visit www.zoes-place.org.uk
